Nippo
The club for the keeping of the japanese breeds, Nihon Ken Hozonkai (called Nippo), was founded in 1928. This club is not to be confused with JKC (Japanese Kennel Club), since these both are separated.
It is also JKC whom FCI/SKK cooperates with.
After the second world war the number of shibas had been severely decimated. Under the supervision of the Nippo-organization the shiba was restaurated. Ten shibas are mentioned as the ones with the biggest impact on the restauration of the breed.
The shiba is the national breed of Japan. In Japan, there are 42 local and 8 regional Nippo shows during the year, topped by a national: Grand Nippo, that is held during the autumn. It's an incredible honour to participate at all, and to get a placement is even greater. On the page Grand Nippo you can see the dogs that got a place at Grand Nippo 2006.
